On Top of the World: Adlair Aviation and Allied Steel

Nestled inside the Arctic Circle – Cambridge Bay, Nunavut provides a wealth of arctic char fishing, musk ox viewing, and bird watching.  When Rene Laserich isn’t taking advantage of these northern activities, he is chartering clients around the heart of Canada’s Arctic in his Lear 25B Jet or transporting them from perilous situations.   Laserich of Adlair Aviation Ltd. specializes in charter services and round-the-clock emergency Medivac services for the Kitikmeot Region.  Adlair Aviation proudly carries a fleet of six diverse aircrafts crucial for a variety of needs.  The fleet includes the flagship Lear 25B Jet, a comfortable King Air 200, a versatile DHC-6 Twin Otter and a DHC-2 Beaver seaplane.

To protect his fleet from the at times harsh arctic elements, Laserich chose a durable and affordable Allied Steel Building.  The 80’x175’x29.5’ steel aircraft hangar in Cambridge Bay is complete with a 14’x14’ roll up door and a 75’x22’ framed opening.  The structure meets the National Building Code of Canada, with a wind load of 90 MPH and a snow load of 33 PSF.  In part to a stormy fall season, construction on the pre-fabricated steel building began October 10th, 2010 and was completed December 8th, 2010.  Laserich stated that eight of those days were completely unworkable conditions.

At this time, construction is underway at the Adlair Aviation Hangar where Laserich is utilizing 20’ of space in the rear of the steel hangar to add a second and third floor, as well as a mezzanine level.  This space will include an aircraft maintenance area, administrative offices and apartments for pilots and crew of Medivac.
